We know Kingston's housing stock, street by street
Kingston is not one kind of house. It is limestone and lath downtown, post-war bungalows through Calvin Park and Strathcona, split levels and side splits in the west end, condo towers along the waterfront, and brand new subdivisions pushing out past Westbrook. Each one fails in its own way, and after enough years of opening panels here you stop being surprised by any of it.
That matters when you are getting a quote. An electrician who has never worked a century home in Sydenham will underprice the fishing and then eat the difference out of your walls. Someone who has never wired a new build in Woodhaven will not know which builder left a spare conduit to the garage. We price the house in front of us, not a generic version of it.
Century homes downtown and Sydenham
Knob and tube still live in the attic, ungrounded two-prong circuits, plaster that cracks if you rush it, and panels that have been added to by four different people. We trace first, cut second, and keep the openings small.
1950s to 70s bungalows
Calvin Park, Polson Park, Strathcona and Henderson Place. Sixty and 100 amp services, aluminum branch wiring from the mid-70s, and kitchens running on two circuits that were never meant to carry a dishwasher and a microwave.
West end splits and 80s builds
Bayridge, Cataraqui Woods and Westwoods. Usually a decent 100 or 125 amp service that is now full, aging federal-style panels, and finished basements that make new circuit runs a puzzle worth planning properly.
New builds in Westbrook and Woodhaven
Good bones, but builder-grade minimums. We add the garage circuits, EV feeds, pot light layouts and basement finishing circuits the base spec skipped, without voiding anything.
Downtown condos and rentals
Limited panel space, board rules about noise and access, and shared risers. We schedule around building hours, keep the corridor clean, and hand the property manager whatever documentation they need.

What electrical work actually costs in Kingston
We are not going to put fake numbers on a web page. Two 200 amp panel upgrades on the same street can differ by thousands depending on where the meter sits, whether the mast survives, how much of the old wiring lands back in the new panel, and whether Utilities Kingston needs to disconnect at the pole. Anyone quoting you a firm price over the phone without asking those questions is either guessing or planning to revise it later.
What we will do is explain the variables before you spend anything, and give you the real price in writing after we look. Where there is a cheaper way that is still safe and code compliant, we will say so. Sometimes that means pigtailing aluminum instead of a full rewire, or load management instead of a service upgrade for your EV charger.

How fast can you get to my place in Kingston?

Do you pull the ESA permit, or is that on me?
We do. Anything notifiable — service upgrades, new circuits, hot tubs, rewires, generator tie-ins — gets filed with the Electrical Safety Authority under our contractor licence, inspected, and closed out with the certificate of acceptance in your name. That certificate is what your insurer or your lawyer will ask for at closing, so keep it with your house paperwork.
How do you price work? Is it hourly or a flat quote?
Most defined jobs get a flat, itemized price before we start, because you should not be paying for our learning curve on an unfamiliar panel. Diagnostic and troubleshooting work is time and material, since nobody can quote a fault they have not found yet. Either way you hear the number before the work happens, and if we open a wall and find something nobody could have known about, we stop and talk to you before spending your money.
My house is from the 1920s. Can you work on old wiring?
Yes, and a lot of our week is exactly that. Downtown, Sydenham and Sunnyside are full of lath and plaster, original knob and tube, ungrounded two-prong circuits and panels that have been added to five times. We trace what is actually live before we touch anything, fish new circuits through existing cavities where we can, and tell you upfront which walls realistically have to be opened.
Do I need a panel upgrade before an EV charger or a heat pump?
Not always. We run a real load calculation on your existing service instead of guessing from the panel label. Plenty of 100 amp services in Kingston will carry a Level 2 charger with load management, and plenty of 200 amp panels are full of tandem breakers with no space left. We would rather tell you that you do not need a service upgrade than sell you one.
Are you insured, and will you show the paperwork?
Fully insured with liability coverage and workplace insurance, and we will email the certificates before we start if you ask. Same with our ESA contractor licence. Anyone working in your house should be able to produce both without hesitating.
